About Deer Island
Deer Island is a gated neighborhood on Johns Lake in west Winter Garden, off West Colonial Drive about a mile from the Florida Turnpike. The name fits. The community sits on an island in the lake, and the water is the whole point of living here.
Johns Lake covers roughly 2,400 acres, which is plenty of room for boating, skiing and fishing. Most of the homes in Deer Island are lakefront, and residents who aren't on the water still have a community boat ramp.
There are about 120 homes, built mostly between the late 1980s and 2010. Lots are big, usually one to two acres, and the homes are custom, so no two look alike. You'll see everything from Mediterranean and Key West styles to contemporary designs, from about 2,000 square feet to nearly 12,000.
Residents share a neighborhood park and tennis and basketball courts, and golf carts are welcome. It's a quiet, private setting with a lot of space between neighbors.
Getting out is easy. The Turnpike and SR 429 are close, the West Orange Trail is nearby, and downtown Winter Garden and Clermont are both a short drive.
